Koishikawa Annex
This fashion exhibition of Naoki Takizawa’s design was based on the concept of clothing protective of mankind and its living, following the great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. This fourth episode of our Mode & Science series was formally inspired by a selection of shells among the scientific specimens accumulated in our museum. For shellfish, their shell is precisely a protective clothing, as well as a home. The title is a neologism associating oikos (the house) and cornucopia (a decorative form shaped like a shell), and the exhibition not only proposed a new approach to fashion, but it also addressed the issue of the minimal house necessary for the peace of mankind.
