Mini-Concert Series “Music & Science (4) – “Cello Reunion”
The Museum technology seminar is holding a series of mini-concerts since June 2013, as a creative staging of the Intermediatheque’s exhibition space. Following Celtic music by the girl’s band “Camel”, this fourth concert is as a special session to close this year. We present a cello ensemble formed by the Komaba Memorial Cello Orchestra. Please look forward to seeing 15 young cellists and their conductor performing Klengel’s “Hymnus for 12 violoncellos” and Villa-Lobos’ “Bachianas Brasileiras No.1. ”

Profile of the Soloist: Nao Kitabatake
Nao Kitabatake started playing the flute at age nine. When participating at the 63rd Student Music Concours of Japan, she won 2nd place in the Osaka competition, 1st place in the Japan-wide competition, an honorable award for music, and the NHK award. As for the 23rd Takarazuka Bega Music Concours, she was awarded a medal, as well as the Takarazuka musician award. She also received a medal when taking part of the 14th Biwako International Flute Competition. Finally, she received the judge special recognition award and performed at a recital when she took part at the Tokyo International Association of Artists Audition. She has studied under Yuki Otsuka, Keiko Nagayama, Hiroaki Kanda, Harue Sugai, and Yu Kurata, and has improved her skills even more by taking master classes by Emmanuel Pahud and Gisela Mashayekhi-Beer. She is currently a student of Keio University (Faculty of Policy Management) and is a member of Ensemble Demi.
Profile of the Conductor: Yusuke Kimoto
Studies conducting under Chiyuki Murakata. Aside from his work as musical director of the Dominant Chamber Orchestra and the Komaba Memorial Cello Orchestra, also active as a conductor in Ensemble Commodo, Strudel Hornisten, Orchestra Affettuoso, SEN Chamber Orchestra, Croisee Salon Orchestra. In 2014, will conduct a concert tour for one week with the UUU Orchestra and the Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra in the Philippines. Actively participates in the musical education of junior and senior high school students. Also, as a leader of the UMUT Museum technology seminar, Music event group, plans the cycle of concerts “Music & Science” at the Intermediatheque, and engages in the planning and administration of chamber music concerts. After graduating from Nada High School, Tokyo University College of Arts and Science, now pursues a Masters degree in Tokyo University Graduate School of Arts and Science.
