Main Features of the Exhibition
“Botanical specimens, extravagantly huge”
“Confront the real presence of life”
● We have been collecting the world’s largest plant leaves, such as the Traveler’s tree, Gorgon plant and Titan arum, with the collaboration of Koishikawa Botanical Gardens, Jindai Botanical Park, Mizumoto Park, and Associate Professor Hiroshi Ikeda (UMUT). We now unveil the collection of huge plants.
● Usually, botanists divide huge plants into sections to make academic specimens; here we attempted to produce full-sized specimens, to emphasize the plant’s huge size.
● Through this method of creation, we tried to convey directly the plants’ overwhelming presence and power of life.
● Huge and bulky plants are difficult to dry and create into specimens. These specimens, including the eventual defects caused during their making, teach us that these humongous leaves, in spite of their size, are also fragile and fugitive.
